International relations (IRC)
The International Relations Committee (IRC) has a major role in co-ordinating and facilitating overseas anaesthetic training programmes, visiting lecturerships for refresher courses and distribution of limited supplies of textbooks and equipment to developing countries. In the past the main thrust has been in Africa and S E Asia but recently the IRC has responded to requests from Eastern European countries.
In 2005, the IRC launched the Overseas Anaesthesia Fund a new initiative to facilitate donations to assist in this type of work.
The IRC maintains a close liaison with the British Council, the Overseas Development Agency and the WFSA Education Committee.
