irish standing committee
Convenor's Message
With devolution achieving popularity, the Irish Standing Committee (ISC) of the AAGBI already comes into its 20th year of existence. It has a proven record of dedication to the service of anaesthetists and anaesthesia in Ireland. The convenorship has been led by different and effective styles from Drs. Des Riordan to Ellen O’Sullivan. Ellen is undoubtely to be thanked for her active and motivational style in her term. However the real business of the ISC is performed with the creativity and enthusiasm of its member representatives. It is through their individual and collective efforts that the AAGBI maintains its support in Ireland.
The committee has and still produces statements, documents and guides for colleagues working in the Irish context. It will undoubtedly need to be mindful of the major changes promised to reshape healthcare and its delivery in Ireland.
Of course, all of this has been achieved with the support and encouragement of the Council and its Presidents over that twenty year period. This welcomed support is not underestimated by the membership in Ireland nor one suspects by others working in the Irish health service.
Dr Rory Page
