Safety Notice - GE Aisys and Avance Anaesthesia Systems

The MHRA has issued a Medical Device Alert for GE Healthcare Aisys Anaesthesia Systems manufactured between May 2005 and May 2008, and Avance Anaesthesia Systems manufactured between June 2003 and May 2008 (some of these models may be labelled Datex-Ohmeda).

An intermittent electrical connection with the On/standby switch can cause the machine to shutdown unexpectedly. The machine alarms and then a message appears on screen stating ‘System Shutdown in 8 seconds.

Users of these machines shuld be aware of the problem, and the possible need for an alternative method of ventilation and sedation.
