Flynn Pharma Satellite Symposium
1745–1900 Thursday 24 September
Enhanced postoperative pain management and its role in the recovery process
Optimal and effective management of postoperative pain continues to present a challenge. Ineffective and suboptimal
pain management have material and untoward consequences in humanitarian terms, postoperative morbidities,
delayed recovery and prolonged length of hospital stay. A growing literature base in enhanced recovery and fast-track
surgery increasingly recognises the importance of postoperative (epidural) analgesia, avoidance or minimisation of
systemic opioid use and early mobilisation, as important contributors to patient management and recovery. Depodur®,
(extended release epidural morphine sulfate 10mg/ml suspension for injection) has been recently launched in the
UK and based on the clinical evidence and early UK experience, offers clinicians a new option and flexibility in the
effective management of postoperative pain.
Flynn Pharma invites interested delegates to participate in our Satellite Symposium to hear of some of the recent
developments and experience in the field.

CSL Behring is proud to sponsor two educational programmes over two days at the 2009 Annual Congress this year
CSL Behring Satellite Symposium
0730 - 0900 Friday 25 September
Fresh Frozen Plasma on trial – is there a place for FFP in warfarin reversal?
A lively and interactive debate in the style of a courtroom trial where the role of FFP will be put before the presiding ‘judge’, Dr Gerard Panting. Presenting the case for the prosecution and defence of the FFP will be Dr Dafydd Thomas and Dr Elfyn Thomas, respectively.
Delegates will have the opportunity to act as the ‘jury’ and give their verdict after the proceedings, via keypad voting.
Please note that breakfast will be served from 7am at the Symposium.
In addition CSL Behring is also holding an Industry Seminar with our chair and top medico-legal expert Dr Gerard Panting and Professor Julian Guest, health economist.
Professor Guest will present data from a recent audit of UK hospitals into the cost-effectiveness of Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) and Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (PCC) in emergency warfarin reversal.
CSL Behring Industry Seminar
Thursday 24th September 15.35-15.50
Cost-effectiveness of FFP and PCC in the acute hospital setting – what do we know now?
Dr Gerard Panting, top medico-legal advisor will chair both the Seminar and the Symposium, for the latter he will act as ‘judge’, reviewing the evidence and encouraging the ‘jurors’ to pronounce the ‘verdict’ on the use of FFP in acquired coagulation disorders
We do hope you are able to join us as a member of the jury!
If you wish to attend any of these satellites and did not select them when making your initial booking, please email the events department annualcongress@aagbi.org and we will update your booking. |
