Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Update
Wednesday 24 March 2010
Organiser: Dr Santhana Kannan, Birmingham
Status: Fully booked
Programme
Advances in ophthalmic surgery means that the nature of patient and surgical proccedures are becoming more complicated. At the same time, advances in anaesthetic techniques have given anaesthetists more options. It has also generated some controversies. This seminar is aimed at anaesthetists of all grades and will cover topics such as fasting and sedation guidlines, use of Nitrous Oxide in eye surgery and paediatic ophthalmic anaesthesia. There will be debates on subtenon vs. peribular block, anaesthetics present for certain LA proccedures and GA vs. LA. With a combined professional experience of 45 years as a consultant in ophthalmic anaesthesia in a regional Eye centre, the speakers are well placed to provide answers.

Thursday 08 July 2010
Organiser: Dr Rebecca Martin,Chelmsford
Status: Spaces available
Programme
There are approximately 13,000 burn injuries per year that require hospital admission, a tenth of which are resuscitation burns. These patients may present to any emergency department and require anaesthetic input prior to transfer to tertiary care. This seminar is aimed at all anaesthetists who do not regularly manage burn injured adults or children but who may be called upon to do so in an emergency. It aims to cover all points at which an anaesthetist may be involved in a burn patient's acute admission providing practical advice. It also addresses the issue of major burn survivors presenting for further anaesthesia.
There will be the opportunity for delegates to bring along case scenarios they have encountered for discussion
