Blue Plaques and Buildings
A history of anaesthesia walk around London
On 16 October 1846, William Morton publically administered ether to relieve pain during a surgical operation in Boston and news of his success spread rapidly. This walk follows the development of modern anaesthesia in London and visits sites of medical importance as well as houses of famous anaesthetists such as John Snow and Joseph Clover. It finishes at the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre, which displays many objects illustrating and explaining the walk.
The walk is based on the ‘Blessed Chloroform Lecture’, 2008, delivered by Dr David Zuck.
