
The World Anaesthesia Society (WAS) is a Specialist Society of the AAGBI with an international membership of over three hundred. The aims of the society are to support the education of anaesthetists in developing countries through provision of high quality educational resources, to assist and advise those thinking of working in developing countries through our network of experienced anaesthetists and to host educational seminars to inform, advise and promote best practice in anaesthesia in developing countries.

Major Activities of the WAS
WAS Seminars
Our seminars provide a forum for anaesthetists of all grades to learn from the recent experiences of colleagues and other specialists providing support for colleagues working overseas.
Each summer we hold a full-day seminar at the AAGBI.
We also organise an annual lunchtime satellite seminar at the AAGBI Winter Scientific Meeting in January.
WAS Educational Resources
Targeting those with little or no access to text books or journals, the WAS has been key to development of two major educational publications – Update in Anaesthesia and Anaesthesia Tutorial of the Week. Both of these have been so successful that they have been taken on by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists. Read more »
