London to Dublin Cycle

Join us on our four-day sponsored bike ride from our London headquarters to Annual Congress in Dublin and help raise money to improve anaesthesia education and care in Africa in the long-term.

We will set off on the morning of Friday 21 September 2018 and arrive in Dublin on Monday 24 September 2018. You are welcome to join us for one, two or three days, if you can’t make all four.

Help raise money for SAFE Africa

The route promises to be a lot of fun and will be a great opportunity to raise money for the AAGBI’s two-year fundraising campaign, SAFE Africa.

  • Step 1: set yourself a fundraising target - we suggest £500 - that we will support you in reaching.
  • Step 2: create an online sponsorship page by going to the SAFE Africa MyDonate page here.
  • Step 3: click on the button marked 'start fundraising' and follow the simple instructions.
  • Step 4: share your page on social media using the hashtag #SAFEAfricaCycle.
  • Step 5: tell your colleagues, friends and family about the cycle and encourage them to sponsor you!
  • Step 6: let us know if you would like some fundraising materials or tips to help your efforts.

Riders of all ages and abilities are invited, as long as you have a degree of cycle fitness and some experience of cycling on public roads. There will be a support vehicle and experienced cyclists to help along the way.

Booking information
There is an entry fee of £50 per day. This will cover the operational costs of the cycle ride including the support vehicle and driver.

Day 2 Saturday 22 September 2018 Banbury - Shrewsbury (92 miles)

Day 3

Sunday 23 September 2018

Shrewsbury - Llandudno (85 miles)

Day 4

Monday 24 September 2018

Llandudno - Holyhead (46 miles)

Accommodation

There will be overnight stops in Banbury, Shrewsbury and Llandudno. You will need to arrange your own accommodation. Many of our cyclists opt to stay at local Premier Inns. Make sure that you book as soon as possible:

- For Banbury, we suggest Premier Inn Banbury
- For Shrewsbury, we suggest Premier Inn Shrewsbury (Town Centre)
- For Llandudno, we suggest Premier Inn Llandudno (Glan-Conway) or Premier Inn Llandudno North

Ferry crossing

You will also need to arrange your ferry crossing on Monday 24 September 2018. It departs from Holyhead at 14:00, arriving in Dublin at 17:15 that evening. You can book via the StenaLine website.

Arrange insurance

Make sure you arrange insurance for your cycle ride. We recommend Cycling UK's Cyclecover Travel Insurance, which you can order online.

You are welcome to join the unofficial AAGBI Conference and Curry Cycling Club on Strava. Our regular cyclists try to select local restaurants for each night and circulate menus in advance where possible.
