Anaesthesia Training in Mulago Hospital, Uganda

In February 2014 Jonathan Dauncey, now a F1 at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, was in his final year at Cardiff University and travelled to Kampala in Uganda to spend five weeks visiting an anaesthetic department. His aim was to gain a greater understanding of how anaesthesia training is organised in Uganda and what it means to be an anaesthetist working in Mulago Hospital. His project was supported by the AAGBI through its ‘Undergraduate Elective Funding’ program. He has produced a short film that explores the anaesthesia training program at Mulago Hospital and reveals the daily challenges faced by the inspirational and dedicated anaesthetic team. The AAGBI plays an integral role with the funding and training of anaesthetists in Uganda and he saw the influential work of the AAGBI in action.
