AAGBI's update in response to the High Court decision in the case of Dr Bawa-Garba

The Association of Anaesthetists is aware of the many issues for trainees and career grade staff in relation to caring for patients during periods of heavy workload, the supervision of junior staff, the role of reflective practice, and charges of medical manslaughter by gross negligence raised by the Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba case and the tragic death of Jack Adcock.

Anaesthetists work in the front line of acute care, and in line with our role of support and welfare, we are actively considering the advice we provide to members who will now feel unsure of how best to manage similar situations.  In the meantime we note the comments from the GMC, the BMA and the Medical Protection Society.

Please note that it may take up to 5 minutes for your comments to appear.
