A good year for innovation in anaesthesia

The AAGBI’s Annual Prize for Innovation in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain, which aims to raise awareness among anaesthetists about the importance of innovation, has got off to a great start by receiving 18 applications for this year’s award. This represents a 29% increase on last year’s submissions.

The winner of last year’s Innovation Prize was RELAX Anaesthetics by Dr Peter Brooks, Consultant Anaesthetist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, who in response to winning the 2016 Prize said,

"We are delighted that the potential of this project has been recognised by the AAGBI. It has given us the momentum needed to further develop the idea and take it to the next level."

The 2017 Prize for Innovation in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain will be awarded at the AAGBI’s Winter Scientific Meeting London on Friday 13 January 2017 (www.wsmlondon.org and www.aagbi.org/innovation).  The AAGBI would also like to thank the following organisations who are supporting the 2017 AAGBI Prize for Innovation in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain: Fannin, Intersurgical and Fujifilm Sonosite.
